In the year of 1955, the Asian-African Conference was successfully held in Bandung City, the Republic of Indonesia and formed the spirit on "unity, friendship, and cooperation". Hereafter, it has become an important initiation in building solidarity among International Relations. Confucius Institute of Universitas Kristen Maranatha (Maranatha Christian University) is located in Bandung City, a place of a turning point in the world history took place, the Asian-African Conference. “Spirit ofBandung” is the International Academic Forum that was founded by Confucius Institute (CI) of Universitas Kristen Maranatha. “Spirit of Bandung” is a Biennial Forum that has started in 2013 to carry forward the spirit to promote mutual understanding, communication, and cooperation between different cultures, and to build a bridge of friendship in the hearts of the people.
In 2017, Confucius Institute of Universitas Kristen Maranatha proudly presents the 3rd Forum of Spirit of Bandung that adopts the initiative of "The Belt and Road". This initiative fits the common needs of the countries along the Belt and Road and it creates new opportunities for mutual complementary and opening-up and development of each country. Southeast Asia countries are central area of "21st-Century Maritime Silk Road". Based on the common issues of each Confucius Institute in the region, the 3rd Spirit of Bandung forum will mainly discuss how to constantly improve the CI-running quality, how to serve the local community, how to effectively promote economic and cultural exchanges, and how to enhance the mutual understanding and traditional friendship between China and Southeast Asian countries.
In order to draw on the collective wisdom in studying and solving those issues and to achieve the mutual learning between different cultures, Confucius Institute of Universitas Kristen Maranatha holds “The 3rd Spirit of Bandung Forum”.
